2 weeks

We have now had 3 pediatrician visits, we had to go several times to monitor his weight & I was having trouble with breastfeeding. But at the last visit he weight 7 lbs and 4 ounces, so we got the OK to come back September 10th for his one month checkup which is exciting but also nerve wracking because I can't bother the pediatrician with all my anxiety questions. We also received a letter from the hospital that his newborn screening came back abnormal, something about the heal test, which tests for thousands of things, all I remember was her saying something about a hormone....so we are awaiting tests for that, but she said it was nothing to worry about for now. UGH.

Nutrition
I'm trying to breast feed as much as possible, I breast feed through out the day either skin to skin or with the double breast pump that we rented from the hospital which is a awesome. It's the medela one that retails for 1,400$, but we still have to pay 40$ for two weeks :( The problem is my milk supply is super low, I barely get 2 ounces when I double pump for 15 minutes, & after 15 min it stops coming out so I can't go longer. It's really frustrating. So I use formula at night & maybe once throughout the day to just ensure myself that he gets enough for now. My breasts have been engorged twice which was painful. So I will continue to do this until my milk supply increases. He wakes up every three hours to feed now.

Sleep

During week one he was sleeping all day, everyday. Now he is finally staying awake for longer than 20 minutes, some times even for an hour or more, but he is still sleeping a lot as well. He sleeps really well at night, some times he will go 4 hours, but now he has discovered if he starts crying it means he gets food.

-Neck muscles already seem really developed, when I lay him on my chest he lifts his head up & looks all around & moves his head from left to right.
-Hiccups like crazy
-Has to eat with his hands in his face
-Cries now!!
-Very wiggly, likes to wiggle out of the blankets we swaddle him in.
-Startles easily
-Loves the sound of his mommy & daddy's voice
-Will stand on his legs with our help

  1. Aw I'm sorry to hear about your breast feeding troubles! Have you tried a lactation consultant? And I hope his heel test turns out ok! Try not to stress out too much, you've already got so much on your plate!
